Depart from JAVA ABC on Friday October 4th at 10am.
We will meet on Friday at 2pm at Shamata gate then drive up to the twin
peaks road head to arrive by 3.45 and start hiking by 4 toward Dragon’s
Teeth base camp for the weekend.
On Saturday hikers will depart from camp towards Satima for a super easy
day hike.
On Saturday explorers will depart from camp towards Satima and beyond to
try to summit the unnamed table mountain West of Satima for an all day
super-hike.
On Saturday climbers will explore the crags of Dragon’s Teeth. All trad climbing.
On Sunday after an easy late breakfast we will return to twin peaks road
head to collect the cars and head back to Nairobi.
This is high altitude backpacking WITHOUT PORTERS so if unsure of your
fitness please do not come. Instead get fit asap before the next such
trip.
All trekking is on open moorland so ‘weather permitting’ expect panoramic
vistas of valleys filled with Giant lobelia and tussock.
Also if unsure of your equipment make arrangements to beg, buy, borrow,
steal etc BEFORE the trip.
Make sure you have typhoon rated wet weather gear. There’s a reason why
the Aberdares are known as Nairobi’s water source…
All those interested please email me (Alex) ASAP and copy Asa so we can include
you in the next (closed loop) email broadcast. Also let us know if you need a lift or are willing
to offer space in your car. If you have a GPS or can borrow one and lastly
if you intend to rock climb or hike short or hike long on the Saturday.
It will take maybe 4 hours to get to Shamata gate from Nairobi.

Alex and Asa: Yes, I would like to make the trip this weekend. I will check in with you at tonight's meeting to determine the make up the group and if this is a good trip, my first trip with MCK to tackle. I will also begin the process of finding gear. So, depending on several variables to be determined, please count me in.
