A couple days ago, while traveling through Ethiopia, my shoes were stolen leaving with only sandals. I was planning to climb/hike Mt Kenya next week or so, but now need a pair trail shoes or hiking boots.

I would like to get a pair of size 12US (47 Euro) hiking boots. Do you have any recommendations where I can find a pair? Rent? Purchase? I am also looking for a pair of trekking poles.

You can try the outdoor shop at Yaya Centre. It's called Xtreme Outdoors. They do not rent. Cheap trekking poles can be found at the local supermarket called Nakumatt Westgate.

I know that Naro Moru River Lodge (at the base of the mountain) would rent out shoes and poles, though am not aware of the prices.

KG Expeditions in Naro Moru rents hiking boots for Ksh 190/day. They have lots of gear so I expect they have treking poles too. Check their web site for contact info: http://www.kenyaexpeditions.com/
