April 7th: Rock Climbing in Lukenya

Open to both beginners and climbers with some level of experience. We can start climbing next to the picnic tree as usual and then try Nemesis in the afternoon if there is interest.

The club will provide equipment for placing of top ropes. Personal gear (harnesses, shoes, helmets and belay carabiners) will be available for rental at 300 Ksh. Climbers experienced in trad climbing are also encouraged to attend but will need to bring their own gear for placing protection, etc.

Those interested should bring lunch, water, sun screen and hat and small change.

We’re planning for an early start, 9am at Lukenya. More details on the venue and how to get there will be provided afterwards. Car pooling is always the preferred choice, so please indicate whether you can offer or need a ride.

Unless we get people with gear to join (meaning ropes and accessories to build anchors), we’ll need to limit the capacity of the meet to 10 people.

April 1st: Trail running in Mount Longonot + BBQ in the Nairobi clubhouse

For those keen on running up and down trails and especially for those training for the Lewa marathon (see Lewa marathon - MCK team), we’ll do our best to organize monthly long runs in different venues around Nairobi or even further away.

The first meet is in Mount Longonot on April the 1st (sorry for the short notice!). We meet at the gate of the park at 8.30am, then run and hopefully by 11.30am we can head to the Nairobi clubhouse for a well deserved protein intake (BBQ), swimming, napping or even try to replicate the success of the last ultimate Frisbee match in the garden!

Car pooling is always the best option, so please let me know if you can offer or need rides.

Food will be taken care of (I’d appreciate someone volunteering to give me a hand on this) and we’ll then collect money on Sunday. The MCK bar will be open, providing soft drinks and tuskers.

Contact me at federicohinrichs@gmail.com BEFORE Friday March 30th if you’re coming.

Please provide me with your phone numbers given that there’s little time to organize.

17th March : Maxidash

For uninitiated, the “Maxi-Dash” is an annual event for the rock climbers of the Club and for ‘climbing guests’ who would wish to participate. The idea is to gather as many points as possible by climbing set climbs (listed below) at five (5) different crags around Nairobi. These are Lukenya, Embaribal, Frog, Ndeiya & Hell’s Gate Nat’l Park (OK, Hell’s Gate is not quite near Nairobi)! During the climbing, all teams should be self sufficient in terms of water, food, communication and transportation. Although the action during the daylight hours is focused on the climbers, the weekend is also a Club ‘meet’ for camping at Hell’s Gate. At the end of the climbing on Saturday evening, we gather at a campground in the Park. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams. All MCK members and guests are invited to bring drinks, meat and other food and convene round the fire to recount tales of the day.
